Once you determine how much you need to save or can afford to save, you need to decide what types of college saving vehicles you want to use. We need to sit down, look at all of the options and then decide which type would be the best for your children! Here are some highlights:

Coverdell Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) are college savings plans in which contributions grow on a tax-deferred basis and withdrawals are tax-free if used to pay for a broad range of educational expenses, including private high school tuition. Unlike 529 plans, ESA's have annual contribution limits and income restrictions.

Custodial accounts- Uniform Gift to Minors Act (UGMA) accounts or Uniform Transfer to Minors Act (UTMA) accounts- are another tax-advantaged way to save for college. A parent, grandparent or other adult is custodian for the account and makes all the investment decisions until the child for whom the account was opened reaches the age of majority.
